The EUAN Staff Exchange Programme (SEP) is a unique initiative that brings together staff from EU decentralised Agencies and Joint Undertakings (JUs) to share expertise, develop new skills, and enhance inter-agency collaboration. By enabling staff to work temporarily in a different Agency, the Programme fosters innovation, efficiency, and stronger cooperation among the EUAN members.
A practical approach to knowledge sharing
The EUAN Staff Exchange Programme is designed to facilitate staff mobility across different policy areas and operational functions, ensuring that EU Agencies and JUs can benefit from each other’s knowledge and experience.
- Who participates?
Staff (e.g. Contract Agents, Temporary Agents, Permanent Officials) from EU Agencies and JUs covering all business and support functions of Agencies/JUs.
- How does it work?
Staff are temporarily (between 1 month and 1 year) hosted by another Agency or JU, gaining firsthand experience of different working methods, regulatory environments, and thematic areas.
- What are the benefits?
The exchange enriches both the staff and the respective organisations, reinforcing the EU Agencies and JUs ability to deliver better based on the collaborative expertise.
Benefits of the EUAN Staff Exchange Programme
The EUAN Staff Exchange Programme is a win-win for EU Agencies and JUs, their staff, and European citizens. Here’s why:
- New skills and fresh perspective
Participants gain hands-on experience in a different Agency, learning new ways of working and expanding their expertise.
- Smarter solutions
Sharing knowledge leads to fresh ideas and better ways to tackle challenges, making the EU Agencies and JUs more effective.
- Career growth
Staff broaden their experience, gain new insights, and open doors to future career opportunities within the EU network.
This programme helps EU Agencies and JUs work better together, ensuring that expertise is shared, resources are used wisely, and European citizens benefit from a stronger, more connected public service.
Real stories, real impact
Since February 2024, several EU Agencies—including the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA), the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the European Union Agency for Criminal Justice Cooperation (EUROJUST), the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), and the European Banking Authority (EBA)— have taken part in reciprocal staff exchanges, allowing professionals to gain new insights and contribute their expertise in a different working environment.
Staff members who have joined the Programme share their experiences. Their stories offer a behind-the-scenes look at how the EUAN SEP enhances professional development, cross-agency collaboration, and the personal career path.
