Target audience

Main duties

The successful applicant will be requested to perform the following main tasks and responsibilities:

  • act as a point of reference on health and social responses to drugs, with a focus on drug-related treatment;
  • play a key role in the agency’s monitoring and evaluation of drug treatment quality and outcomes analysis;
  • coordinate the agency’s developmental work in quality assurance and quality standards in drug treatment services and systems;
  • coordinate the development of the EU-QUALITY project on European services quality standards, its implementation and follow-up;
  • contribute to the agency’s work with capacity development, capacity building and training for professionals of drug services and systems;
  • keep abreast of the latest research and emerging developments in the relevant fields, including drafting rapid reviews for responding to emerging threats;
  • draft evidence syntheses and develop high-quality data reporting tools and instruments for implementation and evaluation sciences in areas relevant to drug treatment;
  • contribute to the core work and main products of the agency, including the data collection workbooks, the European Drug Report, the European Responses Guide, new services developed by the agency, and the drafting and reviewing of other EUDA publications, as requested;
  • support the agency’s work in monitoring health and social services and interventions beyond Europe, as necessary;
  • contribute to the general scientific planning and development of the agency;
  • contribute to both planned and ad hoc transversal projects;
  • represent the agency in relevant scientific meetings and conferences.

Essential requirements

  1. A university or postgraduate degree in a relevant field such as medicine, public health, epidemiology or psychology — with a preference for candidates with specialisations in psychiatry, addiction medicine, mental health or other fields relevant to drug use and related health and social issues.
  2. At least three years of relevant professional experience, which may include clinical work in treatment settings with people affected by substance use disorders, comorbid mental health conditions or similar. Experience can also include non-clinical roles in public health, epidemiology or service planning, provided they are directly related to the treatment responses to drug use.
  3. An excellent understanding of the key health and social issues in the area of responding to drug-related issues, with a focus on treatment.
  4. Experience of implementing quality assurance in treatment or other health or social service settings.
  5. A proven ability to review, synthesise and summarise treatment evidence in health and social research.
  6. A publishing record with high-quality technical and scientific papers and reports in English.
  7. Experience working in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments, including communicating effectively across institutional settings and various hierarchical levels.
  8. Knowledge of the functioning of the European Union and the EUDA in the EU context.
