Who we are

Overview

The EU Agencies Network (EUAN) brings together the EU’s decentralised Agencies and Joint Undertakings (JUs) into a single, collaborative community. By connecting expertise, sharing services, using resources efficiently and avoiding duplications, the EUAN members contribute more effectively to the implementation of EU policies and actions for the benefit of European citizens.

EU decentralised Agencies and JUs play a direct role in improving the daily lives of people in Europe: ensuring safer food, fair workplaces, secure borders, sustainable energy, a healthier environment, and innovation that supports growth and competitiveness. Through cooperation, EUAN helps its members act more efficiently, transparently and coherently, while respecting each Agency’s and JU’s autonomy and specific mandate.

Our mission

EUAN enables structured collaboration across EU decentralised Agencies and JUs to drive innovation, enhance efficiency, and strengthen Europe’s competitiveness. Through closer cooperation, we deliver better services and build a smarter, safer Europe that meets the needs of all citizens. By joining forces, we:

  • contribute more effectively to the implementation of EU policies and actions that improve the quality of life of European citizens, ensuring equal opportunities for all
  • help build a more competitive and sustainable Europe by simplifying processes, embracing innovation, and using the resources wisely
  • pool our expertise to deliver faster and cost-efficient responses to crises and help adapt to emerging needs and save public money
  • advance the overall competitiveness, resilience and social cohesion of the European Union.

Our members and observers

The Network brings together 52 members:

  • 38 EU decentralised Agencies
  • 11 Joint Undertakings (JUs), and
  • 3 EU body (European Cybersecurity Competence Centre (ECCC), European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO))

Members are spread across 24 EU Member States and collectively employ more than 15,000 staff.

Observers and partners - such as the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, or other EU bodies - may take part in meetings to facilitate information exchange and strategic alignment. They support cooperation while preserving the independence of the Agencies and JUs.

What we do

EUAN provides a trusted platform where Agencies and JUs can:

  • coordinate joint activities and identify areas where cooperation adds value
  • exchange information and experience through thematic sub-networks and expert groups.
  • adopt common positions on issues of shared interest
  • promote good governance by aligning management practices and enhancing accountability
  • share services and tools in fields such as communication, procurement, human resources, finance, ICT, facilities and security
  • engage with EU institutions, ensuring that the expertise of Agencies and JUs contributes to policy design and efficient implementation

EUAN adds measurable value by enabling its members to achieve more together than they could alone. Through structured collaboration, we create a cost-efficient, high-impact Network that supports the EU’s long-term priorities and delivers concrete results for citizens.

50 years of EU Agencies

2025 marked 50 years since the creation of the first two decentralised Agencies — Cedefop in Thessaloniki and Eurofound in Dublin. Since then, EU decentralised Agencies and JUs have grown into trusted community that provides valuable expertise, policy advice and operational support across the Union.

Today, their work touches the lives of over 450 million people, ensuring that EU policies deliver tangible benefits — safer products, cleaner environments, secure borders, fair labour conditions, innovation and sustainable growth etc.
