Target audience

(1) Professional
Candidates will be required to demonstrate the following qualifications:
- a University degree (or equivalent academic degree) in materials science or engineering or other related field directly relevant to the post;
- at least 8 years of professional experience (acquired after the award of the qualification required as a condition of eligibility), including at least 4 years in the area of materials and structures;
- proven experience in international R&T collaboration;
- proven professional experience in R&T project management and in transversal R&T activities;
- a track record of working on R&T contractual activities in government/academia or private companies;
- strong technical knowledge in the area of Materials and Structures and of their applications in defence (incl. technologies having application in defence equipment);
- experience in leading organisational and process change, and in group management (organisation of meetings, workshops, conferences);
- a track record of delivering successful business outcomes;
- a very good command of written and oral English.
(2) Personal

B. Desirable
The following will be considered an advantage:
- familiarity with programs related to materials and structures under other EU entities / funding schemes (e.g. EDF);
- experience in project management methodologies like PMI, PRINCE, etc.;
- experience in the whole lifecycle of a project (from inception to delivery of results);
- knowledge of innovation management methodologies/frameworks;
- advanced IT skills, including knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint.
Why we are consulting
We are looking for an experienced Project Officer Materials and Structures Technologies.
Under the supervision of the Head of Technology and Innovation Unit, the jobholder will be responsible for/contribute to the following activities:
- contribute to RTI initiatives aimed at defining capability-led priorities and projects;
- support and management of R&T (Research and Technology) projects including monitoring and evaluation and contracting activities;
- participate and collaborate in projects and studies within integrated teams under the responsibility of the RTI Directorate or with other Directorates of EDA;
- moderate and steer the CapTech Materials & Structures and activities of experts' groups and related Electronic Fora on the EDA Extranet;
- define and organise RTI experts’ meetings and workshops;
- collaborate actively with representatives and experts from the participating Member States;
- liaise with the European Commission and EU Agencies, companies and industry associations involved in military or dual use R&T in the jobholder's area of responsibility;
- participate and represent the Agency in security and defence related seminars and workshops mainly in the areas covered by the CapTech;
- contribute to technology watch and foresight in the jobholder's area of responsibility;
- be responsible for the maintenance of CapTech’s Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda following agreed methodologies;
- ensure the information flow and engagement of the CapTech members;
- contribute to transversal activities among the CapTechs, and also with other work strands within EDA, and other organizations;
- take on additional tasks as required in the interest of the service.
Duties may evolve according to the development of the EDA’s structure and activities, and the decisions of EDA management.

Additional information
The Project Officer Materials and Structures Technologies will be appointed by the Chief Executive.
Recruitment will be as a member of the temporary staff of the Agency for a four-year period. Renewal is possible within the limits set out in the EDA Staff Regulations. The successful candidate will be recruited as Temporary Agent, grade AD10.
The pay for this position consists of a basic salary of 10.949,54€ supplemented with various allowances including, as applicable, expatriation or family allowances. Successful candidates are graded on entry into service according to the length of their professional experience. Salaries are exempted from national tax, instead an Agency tax at source is paid. Failure to obtain the requisite security clearance certificate before the expiration of the probationary period may be cause for termination of the contract.
Candidates are advised that part of the recruitment process includes medical analyses and physical check-up with the Agency’s Medical Adviser.
